This is a black Raku Kase glaze Chaen.
"Kase" is a word that describes a dull, dry state of fabric.
The glaze used on this tea utensil is made with the same formula as regular black Raku glaze and is fired at approximately 1100°C for approximately 20 minutes.
In normal Kuroraku firing, the pottery is fired at 1230°C for approximately 5 minutes to produce a lustrous, warm glaze.
With Kase glaze, the temperature is lower than usual, so the glaze ingredients and iron are not fully melted.
Therefore, this glaze has no luster or warmth and has a metallic feel to the touch.
