Black Raku Tea Bowl
Black Raku Tea Bowl
This black Raku Chaen ware is characterized by its glossy and gorgeous glaze.
The glaze for Kuroraku is made from a natural stone called Kamogawa stone, which contains about 20% iron.
By adding an appropriate amount of frit to Kamogawa stone, the melting point is adjusted so that it can be fired at 1200-1230°C.
During firing, the sides and bottom of the piece heat up at different rates, so we use a mixture that is less likely to melt on the sides and a mixture that is more likely to melt on the bottom, ensuring that the piece is fired evenly throughout.
